Jack’s crying.

So the kid sends me this LOST flair. <3

So I had to go and look at the rest.

Here’s the best of the first 20 pages of LOST flair.

(I totally love Pieces of Flair on Facebook.)

Yes, I said 20 pages.

I only feel like the weird one when I’m around sane people who don’t get LOST.

Learned behaviors.

I don’t think there is anything more important to share than this:

The most critical reason to leave an abusive relationship is that your children are more likely to end up in abusive relationships if you stay.

Often, women (and men) who endure domestic violence will not leave for themselves. Self is lost in that situation. Self has no value. They feel worthless.

But when there are children involved, it is unconscionable to let them grow up to repeat the cycle without taking whatever action necessary to break it.

I have mixed feelings when it comes to talking about my own story. I would prefer to let it remain as distant and blurry as a memory of a past life. But my personal experience is relevant here. If sharing it saves one girl, it is worth it.

Moving on.

The second strongest motivating factor in ending a past violent relationship was a friend who convinced me, after years of hearing otherwise, that I did not deserve what I endured.

But the most influential factor was the knowledge that if I stayed, my little girl would be more likely to allow herself to be treated the way I allowed myself to be treated.

Not. A. Chance. In. Hell.

February 2-6, 2009, is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week.

I’ve created a Squidoo lens to promote this, and will be posting updates on Twitter and Facebook as well.

Join me in spreading the word.

Zero tolerance.

Being a child of the 70s, myself and many of my Gen X friends have teenage daughters and sons, growing up in an increasingly violent world.

Don’t assume that because you don’t see any signs of abuse that it doesn’t happen, hasn’t happened or won’t happen. It may be comparatively easy to talk to your kids about sex and drugs. Be sure you don’t overlook talking about relationship violence.

I’ve never considered myself a “victim” and I know that many, many people who have been in an abusive relationship suffered far more physical and mental harm. Honestly, the whole “this isn’t that bad” or “it could be worse” kept me in place for an embarrassingly long time.

There should not be such a concept as an acceptable level of abuse.

Pass it on.

Animal wrongs.

I have been against “animal rights” since I first learned what motivates the core philosophy of the agenda: it is anti-human thinking that believes the Earth would be better off if humans were wiped from the face of the planet.

It is an agenda that includes the extermination of pets as founding members feel they would be better off not existing as they have been manipulated by humans to be our “slaves.”

I’ve been watching the words and actions of key players in the movement since the early 90s.

Animal rights isn’t about ending cruelty to rodeo animals—it’s about terminating the human-horse relationship and brainwashing the masses to stop eating beef and chicken, eggs and cheese.

(I started writing this weeks ago and it’s been living in my drafts. Seemed timely to finish it up and publish.)

Support animal welfare. Treat animals humanely.

Support local humane organizations. Donate food and other necessities.

Support education for pet owners, such as affordable spay/neuter programs.

Stop empowering PETA, HSUS and other lobbying groups from taking rights away from families who have raised animals for generations.

I was irritated to see that a well-meaning friend had inadvertently sent me a SuperPoke on Facebook that promoted the animal rights cause. This cattle farmer would have never deliberately supported an animal rights agenda, but it was slipped in with a cutesy “adopt a pet” message.

PETA doesn’t want you to adopt pets. PETA killed 97% of the animals it claimed to “rescue” last year. Adoptable animals, young and healthy, killed by the score and dumped in the trash—or stacked in their huge walk-in freezer.

When your life is threatened due to your stance on an issue, it becomes more than just an opinion.

More on the animal rights agenda as time allows.

My first car.

It was hideous.

It was a 1979 Plymouth Volare, dark teal-green and as loud as it was ugly.

I hated that car.

It was all I could afford with my graduation open house gift money, my dad looked it over and said it looked good mechanically, and with him helping me with insurance at the time (since I had no job due to having no car and living in BFE) I went along with it.

There are no photos, no mementos of its existence. Just as well. Unfortunately, its homely image is burned into my memory.

In 1990, I made one of my life’s most egregious errors and sold my first horse, Sugar. With the cash, I bought the best truck on the planet.

It was an ‘81 Ford F-150, it was black (or had been before the sun faded it) and it had authentic shotgun holes in the side, as the previous owner had invited a friend to shoot it, thinking unwisely that said friend wasn’t so drunk as to oblige.

I loved that truck as much as I’d hated the Plymouth.

I got it in—and out—of situations that a two wheel drive farm truck shouldn’t be able to get out of.

Sadly, there seems to be no photographic evidence of the beast, either.

That truck was replaced with my first ever brand new vehicle purchase (another epic FAIL in judgment) and I sold it for more than I’d bought it for.

Fortunately, I bought my horse back when she went up for sale. It was pure luck that I saw the ad in the paper and beat the competition to her, and my first experience in “first right of refusal” meaning absolutely nothing to many people.

This blog entry has no real purpose. That’s bad.

It just is.

Top 100 Squid.

I finally made it into the Top 100 lenses today!

Out of around half a million pages, this one made it to #68.

Tattoo Regret

Okay, so it’s a bit silly to be excited about, maybe, but I’ve been trying… although this is NOT the lens I expected to make it that far!

That’s okay. Whatever helps someone and perhaps puts some pennies in the pocket.

More new stuff.

As if I didn’t have enough going on with CafePress, Squidoo, Facebook and Twitter

Soon, I’m sure I’ll learn why I need all these.

More likely, I’ll neglect them like Myspace and YouTube.

Okay, enough fooling around.

I’m uploading new designs to CafePress because that seems to be *THE* dependable ROI for my time.

As soon as I’m done playing some random Facebook app …

What is a TWTTRSTRM?

Should this widget work, you’ll be able to find the answer below:

I’m wondering myself how well this will catch on.

Here are my first feeble attempts at utilizing the TWTTRSTRM model.

You made a sale at CafePress!

Well, I did at least.

Doing pretty well for January. It’s not a super hot T-shirt sales month, strangely.

One item a day would make me happy. I think I’ve sold at least one item each day this month, except last Thursday. Must be the intertubez were down on the 8th.

Grocery ad FAIL.

The advertisement:

Can you guess which part of the photo really sticks out “above the fold” in the e-mail?

What is that … bread? With a vein?

FAIL.

Nothing’s free.

That’s a cynic for you.

If you don’t believe that it is possible to get paid for something that costs you nothing but your time and a little effort, I invite you to try this with me.

I need five volunteers.

I will pay each of them $10.

What they need to do, is sign up for this website through my link and try ANY of the many free trial offers listed at the site.

Go ahead, go and look at the offers. There is absolutely no obligation to accept any of them. I just want you to go and LOOK.

I would like to list some of the names of the respected companies you can choose from, but I’m not allowed to influence your choice: it is violation of the terms of service, and I don’t want to jeopardize receiving the cash reward.

I can tell you that the one I chose is a service that I continued after the free trial because it is very reliable and convenient to receive movie rentals through the mail. ;)

This offer is from what is called a TRAINN site. The company behind it, Transcendent Innovations, is one of the most respected in this niche: simple to register with and easy to succeed at meeting the terms for the reward. There are lots of positive testimonials—people DO get the prize or cash they are promised.

If you feel like this is a scam, click out of here to some other site. I don’t want anyone to feel like I would encourage them to try something they’re not comfortable with.

If you want to give it a try, simply go to www.YourFreeFlatscreen.com/index.php?ref=4625924 and take a look around.

Be sure to read the Description and the Requirements for each offer. I can only pay you if you “go green” which means if your registration and offer transaction is validated by the site. I don’t want you to go through the trouble and then not get paid because you missed an important detail. Take your time.

More information about TRAINN referral sites here: www.squidoo.com/referralcash

Another pay-per-referral site I highly recommend, this is a PayPal competitor:

Refer A Friend using Revolution Money Exchange

My account was very easy to set up, and I’ve transferred $140 from my RME account to my credit union account, costing me nothing: no fees like PayPal, no cost to join. You get $10 for each person that joins using your link.

Details about RME here: www.squidoo.com/revolutionme

I do my best to research this stuff before passing it along. You, my reader, could just as likely be a friend or family member as a total stranger, and I would not recommend any site I didn’t personally trust.

Are you one of the 5 people I’m looking for? Let me know.
